We require strong power system modelling skills, experience with the Australian grid connection process, and a strong sense of developing a team environment to deliver projects that can serve the energy grid and help secure our environment. Desired capabilities are a strong plus.
Requirements
Proven track record of power system simulation and modelling skills in the context of utility scale renewable and / or battery energy storage systems.
Substantial experience of working on utility-focused power engineering projects and / or product design.
Proficiency in power system analysis and control simulation tools (e.g., PSS®E, PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC)
Experience in user written dynamic models for PSS®E or PSCAD and/or DSL scripting in PowerFactory
Strong programming skills in Python, Fortran, C++ etc.
Proven experience within the NEM connection application process.
Knowledge of utility protection and control engineering design principles.
Basic knowledge of electric utility substation and electrical distribution system design.
Understanding of the dynamics of introducing distributed energy resources into electric grid operations.
Direct and provide technical and administrative guidance to assigned Project / discipline of Engineers in managing projects.
Conducts annual performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.
Ability to collaborate with multiple teams.
Be a key lead in the creation of a work environment that encompasses the Doosan GridTech values.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience writing technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Willingness to travel.
Desired Skills
Extensive knowledge of utility Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Power systems in general.
Utility or consultancy-based professional experience preferred.
Proficiency in the operation and/or design of discrete time-based control systems.
Knowledge of utility communication systems, including SCADA.
Familiarity with additional analysis packages such as ETAP and MATLAB is beneficial.
Experience generating intellectual property (IP) and creating IP documentation within the context of product developments.
Responsibilities
Manage and lead grid connection studies for megawatt-scale energy storage systems.
Perform power system analysis, stakeholder reporting, and ongoing stakeholder negotiations (including client, NSP, and regulator).
Supervise and mentor other Power systems Engineers and Senior Engineers as team members.
Ad-hock travels to assist in power system validation during commissioning and on a needs basis for client meetings.
Provide engineering support for component solicitations, including evaluating power conversion systems and battery systems from multiple vendors.
Provide expertise in understanding the interaction between the BESS power converter systems (PCS) and the utility/grid under a broad range of system events and operating conditions.
Provide supervision and guidance for the modelling of the BESS generating system in detail using PSS/E and PSCAD platforms to perform steady-state and transient stability analysis, according to the standards and requirements of NEM (National Energy Market) grid connection process for inverters and Power Plant controllers.
Development and maintenance of power plant control (PPC) models of Doosan’s control systems to demonstrate functional and dynamic performance to meet grid code across the region, with an emphasis on the Australian NER (National Electricity Rules) requirements.
Model validation studies required to test specifically the power plant controller model features and response under various operating conditions.
Actively lead the process to provide support to both internal and external customers.
Qualifications
5+ years of demonstrated experience in electrical power system engineering. Experience in utility electrical power system projects or distributed energy resource projects is strongly preferred.
Master of Electrical Engineering or related electrical power systems field with 7+ years of direct engineering experience.
Certification as a CPEng or similar registration membership is considered advantageous.
