This position is based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

 

We require strong power system modelling skills, experience with the Australian grid connection process, and a strong sense of working in a team environment to deliver projects that can serve the energy grid and help secure our environment. Desired capabilities are a strong plus.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of power system simulation and modelling skills in the context of utility scale renewable and / or battery energy storage systems.

  • Experience working on utility-focused power engineering projects and / or product design.

  • Proficiency in power system analysis and control simulation tools (e.g., PSS®E, PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC)

  • Knowledge of programming in Python, Fortran, C++ etc.

  • Proven experience within the NEM connection application process.

  • Knowledge of utility protection and control engineering design principles.

  • Basic knowledge of electric utility substation and electrical distribution system design.

  • Conducts annual performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.

  • Experience writing technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Willingness to travel.

Desired Skills

  • Utility or consultancy based professional experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of utility-scale energy storage systems.

  • Familiarity in the operation and / or design of discrete time-based control systems.

  • Knowledge of utility communication systems, including SCADA.

  • Familiarity with additional analysis packages such as ETAP and MATLAB beneficial.

  • Experience generating intellectual property (IP) and creating IP documentation within the context of product developments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grid connection studies for megawatt-scale energy storage systems.

  • Perform power system analysis, stakeholder reporting and ongoing stakeholder negotiations (including client, NSP and regulator).

  • Ad-hock travel to assist in power system validation during commissioning and on as needs basis for client meetings.

  • Modelling of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) system in detail using PSS/E and PSCAD softwares for performing steady state and transient stability analysis, according to the standards and requirements of NEM (National Energy Market) grid connection process.

  • Maintenance of power plant control (PPC) models of Doosan’s control systems to demonstrate functional and dynamic performance to meet grid code across the region, with an emphasis on the Australian NER (National Electricity Rules) requirements.

  • Actively work and learn to provide support to both internal and external customers.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years demonstrated experience in electrical power system engineering. Experience on utility electrical power system projects or distributed energy resource projects is strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or related electrical power systems field with 7+ years of direct engineering experience.

  • Certification as a CPEng or similar registration memberships considered advantageous.
